Diva Challenge #216 - "Brella"

It has been a while since I last posted a Challenge. Life turned upside down when my wife, Linda, passed away last February. I want to thank each and every one of you who so graciously sent your heart-felt notes of condolence. They were wonderful and meant so much to our family.

Being the first Monday of the Month, our Challenge from Laura "The Diva" is the regular feature, "UMT", use my tangle. This weeks challenge pattern is by CZT®, Bunny Wright and is called, "Brella." Monday is May 4th and is Star Wars day. "May the 4th be with you." So a Star Wars Theme element is encouraged.

Patterns used: Brella, Niuroda, Knights Bridge, Star Map, Tipple, Stripes, Lava Juice, Mssst, and Flux
Materials used - all the usual suspects.

I had the awesome opportunity to catch up with two of our wonderful fellow contributors, Suzanne Durville, and Antonine Koval at the Zentangle® #19 CZT Seminar. It was a wonderful time and everyone there had a lot of fun, and enjoyed the outstanding hospitality of Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts along with their unparalleled Staff. It was a joy meeting these warm and wonderful people. The Seminar was beautifully run and concluded way to quickly. There were 109 students in attendance and 108 of them were gifted artists and tangled up a storm. I was definitely pedaling hard to stay afloat with all of these talented ladies. The mosaics created from the many projects were very impressive. Of all those students, I was the only fellow there. I enjoyed every minute of the Seminar.

Blessings to everyone contributing to Laura's wonderful weekly challenge. You're all very special artists.

  1. David, we are so happy to have you back. Your talent, cheerful posts, and encouraging comments were missed. That's just great that you got to go to the training and even got to meet some of our online pals. I just love your Star Wars tile. I forget what you call those long-legged creatures, but you blended it in so well that I almost didn't see it. Congrats on becoming a CZT and never let that inner critic give you a rough time. As you know, that's not allowed in the world of Zentangle :)

  3. It is wonderful to have you back. Your tile is, as always, wonderful. I am sure you weren't doing a lot of pedaling as you are a talented and gifted artist ( you probably had some of the participants pedaling to keep up with you). Congratulations on your new title, CZT.

  7. I can say with certainty, since I was there to see it, that your work at the CZT seminar was as wonderful as your work always is here, so if you meant yourself, I must demand a retraction. 109 out of 109, no question. I feel honored to know such a kind, true gentleman - and a wonderful artist. I really love your tile this week - and am glad to see your work back on the Diva. You were much missed!

  8. David, I like your take on the theme this week. Congratulations on becoming certified; the rest of us are just certifiable; certifiably crazy. I was sorry to hear about your wife's passing and am glad to see you creating--and posting--again. Have a brilliant day! c

  10. Welcome back David! and congratulations on becoming a CZT. I can see you kept up with your tangling and as usual, it is very well done. Love the way you used Brella as the ground and your Star Wars influence is fun! Like Jean, I don't remember what they are called, but your critter is wonderful (At-At maybe? I hate losing my memory!) Anyway good to see you back and I really think that there were 109 artists there because you, dear man, are an artist!

  12. Your Star Wars theme is FAB! I am sure Laura's boys are enjoying all of these sci-fi creatures that they are so familiar being done up in tangled glory. Congrats on your CZT...Wayne went several years ago and met ever so many people. That type of workshop/seminar is wonderful just to connect with others that enjoy the same art form. Be well, sending energy/prayers as you go forward dealing without Linda in your daily life.

  17. Yay! Dave is back! Love your At-At, what a clever way to incorporate Star Wars. Great choices of tangles. Packing the niuroda with other designs is cool, too. I like it a lot! and happy that you're getting back into the swing of things.

  18. Great work David. I have to admit I was looking at how your Brella had a basket weave effect to it and did not see the At-At at first. (of you read that out loud sounds like I am stuttering. Like the subtle colors and the use of Flux. My condolences on the death of your wife. I knew something was going on but missed what exactly happened. Congratulations on attending the CZT seminar. I think there were about 4 males in my class. Definitely in the minority.

  19. David, your take on this challenge is true to your unique style! Your use of color is just right - restrained and totally effective. As for all the goings on at CZT 19, I can say with certainty you were outdone by no one! I was so happy to meet you - and Suzanne - and so many others. You were tapped to be Valedictorian of the class with good reason! When I look at my scribbly journal and then remember your elegant, pristine, beautifully organized book - which I was so proud to sign along with all the other wonderful new friends we met - I am truly humbled. You are an inspiration in so many ways. So...great job, as always, on the challenge this week, and CONGRATULATIONS, Mr. CZT 19!
