Challenge #186- Leaf String

What a fun challenge this was. I choose an Ash leaf to base my string on for this challenge.
It is a real free form design on a standard 3.5 x 3.5 inch Tile. Other than auras I'm unaware of a single pattern in this Tile. (Are the pearls considered an embellishment, a fill element, or a pattern?)

Thanks a bushel and a peck for all the wonderful Comments on last weeks Challenge.

  1. Deceptively simple and subtly coloured. This looks so, so good. The gray to black shading is a tour de force all by itself. Really great tile.

  5. Oh my goodness, this is nice! It has so much dimension, like a cut out of a leaf. With the aura'ing, it looks like it's floating on water...serene and wistful.

  6. David, your leaf tile is very engaging. Objectively non-objective. I don't know what you call the "pearls", but I find I also frequently use them.

  7. Really a great contrast between the colors and the black areas. At first I only watched it, until I discovered the sheet. You have drawn a great Tangle.

  10. Great tile with beautiful autumn colors. I like the simple auraing and just a little tipple or pearl around your leaf.

  11. According to the official Zentangle explanation, the round circles are called "Perfs". They are a pearl like dot surrounding the tangle and it was common to use these in early manuscripts. Things like that are called "Tangle Enhancers." Done with the lesson, now let me say your leaf is beautifully done whatever you call any of it :)

  13. I like your interpretation here, very distinct and different and so visually appealing! I love your pen shading, and there is so much movement in this, really draws your eye through the entire composition!

  14. I am in love with the orangey-red tones and all your shading is fabulous (I always ruin mine if I try pencil or graphite shading) :)

  15. Very dramatic tile. I also love the pearls and how you used space. I often find the most difficult thing is to manage space throughout the tile.
