Diva Challenge #195- Turning Old into New
Sandy Hunter, CZT®, is this weeks Guest Host for Laura Harms weekly Diva Challenge. She has challenged us to take a Grid pattern and make something out of it, or put a pattern into a grid.. I Took a bit of artistic license and chose to use "Bilt" by Lisa Skeen. It is not really a grid pattern, but it is a bit ridgid in its construct. I liked the "M" shape that is within, "Bilt," and chose to make it an independent object that could be scattered around. It has modest possibilities. I'm very relieved that I was not asked to use my off hand like last weeks challenge.

Lightning bugs! ha! That's what your little free floating Bilt M's reming me of. It's a terrific piece, Dave! I like it...the black background, the little bit of flux balancing things...and the large swath of Bilt across it all...it's sort of like a back yard at night. A snake, lightning bugs, dark, some plant life.
ReplyDeleteDavid, I really like how you used Bilt in the free-form. It has great possibilities for a fill pattern where you need it. Nice tile! The extra little weighting on the ends really makes it. I am with you.... using my non dom had was not easy last week!

ReplyDeleteI found this week's challenge to be quite a challenge. Like you, I resorted to some color. I think you pulled off your concept very nicely. (I'm also totally relived that I didn't have to try this with my non-dominant hand).
ReplyDeleteGreat piece David. I like the little creatures born out of Bilt. They look like little frogs, my children had in a game when they were younger. By pushing with your finger on their tail, they jump forward. Love to see them in your tile, and making me smile because of the sweet memories it brings to me. Thanx!

ReplyDeleteYour tile is great and alive with movment. Somehow I find it very masculine. Your play with Bilt is fun and turns out very surprising. I also admire the contrast between the "soft" and "hard "edged patterns. Bravo!

ReplyDeleteThe way you have drawn the Bilt as free form really does look like an explosion or some sort of evolutionary Big Bang! I've been fascinated by how people have been designing this time around...very challenging too.

ReplyDeleteAs always, an amazing tile. Love the use of the conventional Bilt and then the freeform Bilt. Great contrasts. And I love the way the conventional Bilt does its own bit of escapology, trailing out of the frame and over the edge
