The theme is Bring Your Own Beverage. My Coke and Coffee tile attempts failed miserably, so I went a bit off the grid and tried using the juice from a jar of Maraschino Cherries. It looked cool enough on the blank tile. A nice curving arc that invited an organic approach.
Well things went well enough until the scanning portion of the process arrived. That was a nightmare. The scanner that I have been using for my blog was not up to the task. It could not pick up the Maraschino coloration. I had to switch over to my industrial grade Epson flatbed scanner, and that system fought me tooth and nail before it cooperated. It was able to reach the elusive pinkness of the Maraschino, but also picked up every other blemish and smudge as well. For a simple looking Tile, this was one tough ordeal to undertake. I'll remember this one.
Due to the scanning issues with this Tile, the scan of just the stain was a total loss, just a white tile. Thus I only have the finish tile to upload.

I love this tile. The red color and the soft red of the cherrie stains in the background. makes me feel the wind blowing through these stems.
ReplyDeleteWow, really love this tile!
ReplyDeleteLove the tile but I can't help wondering whose maraschino you stole...
ReplyDeleteIt was only borrowed, sort of.
DeleteWhat a beautiful subtle color and I love the movement in this tile! So you "borrowed" someones cherry? ;)
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely blend of gentle tangle and delicate color.
ReplyDeleteOh. Airy and beautiful. I like it :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, David, to use cherry juice. Your finished tile is really pretty with that light pink color. So, do you think Maraschino cherry juice is archival? - I am joking :)
ReplyDeleteLove the color, and your tile. I can almost feel the gentle breeze that's causing movement in your tile. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteThe tangle is perfect for the shape of the pink stain. As others have commented, you can almost feel the breeze :) Linda
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry it was so much work to share, but thanks because it's a beautiful tile. Lovely subtle color.
ReplyDeleteSo elegant. I like the simplicity of the tangle, to counter the complicated ways it took you to scan. (I'm not a great fan of scanners for these tangles - mine tends to wash out shading like yours did with the colour. I often resort to the camera).
ReplyDeleteDavid, you can see enough of the color to see what it looked like... great tile and love the color behind it... You did GREAT... Love, Light and Peace...Bonnie
ReplyDeleteWow very nice love it and the color is awesome
ReplyDeleteThis tiles tells me that 'less is more'. is still very true. I LOVE it David.
ReplyDeleteFantastic tile. Great use of cherries. :) I love it!
ReplyDeleteMarchino cherries??? for a Manhattan (yum!) Love your tile and even if you think the colour didn't come out bold enough - we all know what that is like - You did a great job!
ReplyDeletelovely...It does have a real effect of wind thru the prairie. Love it!
ReplyDeleteaka heidisue
Absolutely beautiful and delicate tile! I like the soft red colour in the background and it seems for a light movement!
ReplyDeleteI love this - the color is lovely as is the tangle. I also had trouble getting my coffee to show up on the tangle.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't get beyond the idea of a whole jar of maraschino cherries - hope the tangle was nice too!
ReplyDelete;-)
A whole jar of Maraschino Cherries is a sweet thought indeed.
DeleteI could have sworn I commented already but I don't see it now! I came back to pass on the name of the tangle you liked so much on my tile: Cheesecloth. I said this at Flickr, but wanted to say here, too, that I saw it on this tile by Alice Hendon:

..and that I believe it is originally by Suzanne McNeill.
But more importantly than all of that is to compliment you on your tile and those great scratchy lines you somehow got from that cherry and how you so beautifully echoed them with your simple, delicate tangle! I sure hope this comment shows up and I will be back to check. Humph. (I am feeling just a tiny bit the way you probably felt trying to scan your tile....)
Hi Jennifer. I so appreciate the name of the Cheesecloth Pattern, and that the author may be Suzanne McNeill. I like it very much and you drew it beautifully on your Tile.

Thanks so much for your comments. I'll be back also to make sure this entry is still here. If it is not, BlogSpot is my next stop.
David, I am so glad you asked what the name of that tangle was on Jennifer's tile. I loved it right away when I saw it too!! Thanks to you both!!! And I have to say the maraschino cherries did a fine job!! And your tangle looks beautiful with it!!! By the way, was your paper sticky after using cherry juice? I ask only because I also tried using kool-aid, all ready sweetened, and it left my paper sticky. Hence the reason I didn't use that one!! Anyway, Lovely work! :0) Share Humanity
DeleteHi, Annette. I'm glad that you liked the Cheese Cloth Pattern also. It will do so nicely as a fill in those awkward voids.
DeleteI had no stickiness from the Cherry Stain, suprisingly. I ran some test sheets with it, and stickness only occurred if it was too thick. It was nice to see the Pigma Micron pens had no trouble laying down ink on top of the stain. Those pens are awesome.
Thanks for the Comment.....
Great piece of art. Like others have commented like the sense of movement you achieved and the subtle stain behind is great.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteYep! yep! yep! love, love, love it!! so very pretty, you got your cherry after all - I do appreciate your comments too. I tend not to reply to comments on my blog as I'm not so sure if anyone will see them :) scanners.... grrrr, I've had my share of not so nice dealings :)
ReplyDeleteScanning effort paid off :) The result is stunning. The color and drawing is beautiful. I love such clean designs.
