Diva Challenge #173 Revisit, Reduex, Remix Comfort Tangle

This weeks challenge is by Sharla R. Hicks, who is guest hosting while Laura Harms is in Providence. How cool is that. Welcome to Sharla and thanks for a very comprehensive challenge.

As I'm so new to Tangling, I do not have the history to take full advantage of this challenge's many attributes. I did change sizes from the standard tile size used in my previous Challenge Responses, to 3.5" x 5" tile. I liked working with this new size.

For patterns I used: Horse Chestnut by Lizzie Mayne, and Nzeppel by Maria and Rick. A little of this and that were thrown in to fill things out.

Colored with regular colored pencils. Ink by Sigma Micron 01, 03. The back ground grid was colored pencil only. That was an experiment. I'm still debating if I like it or not.

This was a very fun, relaxing Tile. For the most part, I am happier with this challenge than I have been in the past. These challenges are so interesting and fun it is impossible to not welcome Mondays with a big smile and rolled up sleeves, ready for another, always wonderful, Challenge. Thanks Laura and Sharla.

  1. Wonderful tile! The colours, movement and pattern choices make up a great composition. Surprisingly bold and masculine for a floral theme.

  6. Gorgeous, David! Horse Chestnut is a new one for me and I can't wait to play with it. I love how you folded the top petal over. That background is a perfect and soft way to showcase this beautiful tile.

  8. Your work is really good, I can't tell that you haven't been tangling for years! I also like the colours that you have chosen. I enjoy learning from seeing other people's artwork... colours that I wouldn't think of using together that really look nice together. Perhaps I study drawings too closely but I see the background as a chain link fence on the side of the road with a beautiful flower growing from the gravel and weeds.

  10. A fantastic piece David and I love the background just in coloured pencil - I do this sometimes when I don't want the background to stand out and distract from the main focus. Thanks kindly for your comments - the colour is a brown colour, actually 2 - a brown micron and a sepia Faber Castell - perhaps the blending of the two makes it look purplish? :)

    1. Our reasons for using the colored pencil on the background were identical. I had to think on that solution for a while, however, before I came to it. Thanks for the colours you used, It was masterful I just could not discern what those colours were under the red. Thanks for your comments and assistance. You are much appreciated.

  13. Very well done. I am always particularly attracted to some small detail it seems. And in this tile, it is the small reddish flowers in the middle. They "hit the spot" for me, artistically speaking.

    1. I liked those little guys also. They just seemed to fit in that spot in a quiet, reserved sort of way. Thanks for your comments, Jennifer.

  15. Great ZIA. I do not think I have heard of Horse Chestnut before either, but it is a great organic pattern. I like the shading of this. It looks so real. I have to agree with some other comments that I think your background is spot on.

    1. Hi Donald. I picked up on the horse Chestnut somewhere along the line. I don't remember where, but it is not in the TanglePatterns.com database. It was created by Lizzie Mayne. I like it very much. The background was a bit of a desparation move, and a made up pattern, which, luckily worked out. Thanks for your comments, Donald.

    1. I'd like to hear Anchor's Aweigh sung by the Navy Choir. I sang in a Barber Shop Chorus once, and it was awesome. You would really feel it if you sang Anchor's Aweigh in the middle of the Navy Choir. It would be fun to try. Fun to think about.
